Wednesday, the team held the book launch of the film. Ekta Kapoor was present along with the co-producer of the film, Vishal Bharadwaj. The book has been penned by Ved Prakash Sharma, and is completely different from the film.
With just a few days left for release, Ekta Kapoor left for Kolkata today. She has a 12 city tour lined up for the film’s promotions. Ekta Kapoor is known to be an extremely religious and spiritual person, and hence she will directly head to Kalighat. Her film is based on daayans, so she is keen to offer prayers to Kali Maa so as to get rid of any curses.
On Saturday, along with her lead actress Konkona Sen Sharma, Ekta Kapoor will appear on ‘Dance Bangla Dance Junior’.
The film has been inspired by a short story that was written by Konkona Sen Sharma’s father, Mukul Sharma. The moment Vishal read the story he imagined a movie out of it. Ekta Kapoor came on board similarly. Ekta Kapoor was heard saying, “Indians love folklore, but there has been no recent film on the subject. Surreal, intriguing and enigmatic folklore enjoys a strong mass connect. If America's obsession with vampires can give rise to a series of vampire flicks, why not a first-of-its-kind daayan (witch) film in India? Dark, diabolical women fascinate us...”
The film is being directed by newcomer Kannan Iyer and it stars Konkona Sen Sharma, Emraan Hashmi, Huma Qureshi and Kalki Koechlin.
This is Konkona’s first outing after the birth of her son in 2011. She was heard saying, “This is the first time I am doing horror and I am collaborating with some great people like Vishal, Ekta, Huma (Qureshi), so I am very excited about it. There is so much collaboration with such great talent together… like who wouldn’t want to work with Vishalji? I really want to work with Balaji as well. Besides, my father has written a short story 20 years ago on which the film is based upon.” She didn’t reveal much about her role. However, she did mention that her relationship with Emraan Hashmi in the film is quite interesting and mysterious.
‘Ek Thi Daayan’, presented by Balaji Motion Pictures and produced by Vishal Bharadwaj Pictures, is ready for release on the 18th of April 2013.
